Soyinka, the Enigma

Basil Odilim

You may disagree with him, especially his political stance on Peter Obi, a younger politician he could have chosen not to criticize if he didn’t want to support. However, his dedication to maintaining his health is admirable. At 90, he resembles a well-maintained Rolls Royce.

Soyinka is an enigma, both intellectually and in terms of his health. He takes his well-being seriously, indulging in the finest wines. Had I been invited to his 90th birthday, I would have brought a carton of Ihiala-Amaka Red Wine and Odii Dietary Wine.

From what I understand, Prof. Soyinka hardly dines out. But when he inevitably has to, he chooses a healthy diet and stays away from junk food. He doesn’t eat at public events, I was also told. Living in a forest keeps him close to nature, in a pristine environment, breathing the freshest air, unlike the polluted air in our cities.

Soyinka’s simple attire reflects a man content with himself, uninterested in impressing others, and focused on maintaining his inner peace. He exemplifies the best in both physical and mental well-being. We should all strive to be like Soyinka, proactively taking extreme care of our health, both mentally and physically, by wisely choosing what we consume.
